Irec: Gettaround, Lifestraw, Tough Stuff, and Mariah Power

As I’ve mentioned at least once before, I was @ BIL 2010 in Long Beach last month and heard about all sorts of innovative ideas. One presentation  that particularly caught my attention the one by Alex Lightman where he shared a bunch of  startups and newish businesses who are bringing innovative products and services to the market place. Although I am have not tried any of the companies, I thought they are worth sharing.

  • Gettaround, Inc. – New model for transportation which allows one to rent out their vehicle when they are not using it. I’ve  signed up on their mailing list but don’t think they’ve launched in my area yet.
  • Tough Stuff – ” provides very inexpensive solar products to low income families in developing countries.”
  • Life Straw – point of use water filter.
  • Mariah Power – Wind turbines for your home.
